Veterinary Exam

Simply visiting our website and familiarizing yourself with our services is an indicator that you are a responsible pet owner. And you probably already know the importance of regular wellness exams in your pet’s life. Like with us humans, annual check-ups are a great way to see if any modifications need to be made in our lifestyle so that we can stay healthy in the long-term. If you have any questions about our veterinary exams, please do not hesitate to call us at 902.863.3157.

Why is a veterinary examination so important?

Regular check-ups are even more important for our furry friends, because they cannot communicate with us if they are feeling off or sick. Our team can perform a series of bloodwork, scans and other diagnostics to check if your pet is suffering from any underlying health conditions. These visits are also a great opportunity for you to touch base with your veterinarian, and address any concerns or questions you may have about your pet’s health.

What happens during a routine exam?

Most veterinary wellness visits start off with your veterinarian examining your pet visually from head to toe. Their weight and temperature may be taken. Then, our registered veterinary technicians may conduct bloodwork, X-ray scans, as well as urine and fecal exams for further diagnostics. Once the test results have been generated and taken into consideration, your veterinarian will then suggest changes or tweaks you can make in terms of your pet’s medications, food, activities and ongoing treatments.

How long does a veterinary exam take?

Most wellness exams here at Antigonish Veterinary Clinic take about 20 to 30 minutes. Reserving 1 hour of your time for this should be enough, but please be prepared for any unexpected delays, as our team may have to deal with emergency cases on occasion. Also, if you are unable to make your appointment for any reason, please call our team ASAP, so that we can give your time slot to other patients in need.
