Equine Services

Here at Antigonish Veterinary Clinic, we are proud to be part of an amazing rural community. As you may already know, many of the farms and families here have ponies and horses as part of their household. Our team can provide a whole range of medical care for these majestic creatures, both at the clinic and on our clients’ properties via our mobile unit. Kindly call us at 902.863.3157 to learn about how we take care of the beautiful horses here in our region.

How often do horses need to go to the vet?

It depends on the animals’ unique situation. Once fully grown, annual full-body examinations are often sufficient. But, once your horse is at a senior age, they may need to see the veterinarian once every 6 months. More check-ups will also be needed for horses who have pre-existing health conditions, or those that experience more physical strain in their everyday lives (e.g. horses who perform sports and other physically demanding activities).

What are some of the services that you provide for your equine patients?

On-farm/mobile service, vaccinations, surgeries, diagnostics, deworming and pre-purchase examinations are just some of the services offered by our equine team.

What kind of horses does your clinic treat?

Our team treats all kinds of horses – from competitive horses, working farm horses and horses who you have on your property simply for recreational purposes.

How much does an equine consultation cost?

Service rates will depend on many factors such as the kind of treatment administered. We ask that you call us directly for our latest rates. Only after a detailed consultation will we be able to provide a cost estimate.
